People & Planet

A World Full of Optimism

Since the very beginning, optimism has been our guiding light here at Life is Good. And as much as we love a tee with a positivity-fueled graphic (and we certainly do), this philosophy goes far deeper than the surface of your favorite shirt. For over 30 years, we’ve focused on opportunities to ensure that our products, processes, and people policies truly reflect our values.

So, have a look! Here are a few of the many things we've been doing behind the scenes to ensure that our company's impact, near and far, physical and personal, is aligned with and working toward our ultimate mission - spreading the power of optimism.

Our Planet: Optimism Through Action

What's In a Life is Good Tee?

We’ve worked hard to build a t-shirt manufacturing process that fully reflects our respect for the planet and its people. When you wear a Life is Good tee, you can rest assured that we kept these values in mind through the product's entire lifecycle, starting with sustainably-grown cotton and finishing with a hangtag crafted from post consumer recycled material.

Did you know that 10 million tons of discarded clothing fills our landfills every year? Our aim is to cut through the buy-use-throw cycle and get you a product that you'll keep for good.

Leaving Things Better Than We Found Them

There's only one Planet Earth - and hopefully, you already know how much we absolutely adore this beautiful blue dot we call home. Filling it up with trash and single-use plastics? Not our idea of spreading good vibes. We've focused our efforts on reducing waste through every step of our manufacturing and shipping process, including:

  • Perfecting a Print on Demand process, which vastly reduces excess blank t-shirt inventory and wasteful over-printing of garments
  • Shifting our focus from plastisol ink to more environmentally-friendly water-based alternatives
  • Constructing our product hangtags out of 100% post-consumer recycled material
  • Shipping items without individually wrapping them in single-use plastic
  • Shipping packages using compostable mailing materials made from recycled poly and an eco friendly additive that breaks down the plastic
  • Ensuring our packages are always resealable for reuse/returns/exchanges
  • Emphasizing the importance of sustainability with our manufacturing partners, including scrap recycling, alternative power sources, recycled/retreated water usage, and other waste reduction practices

A Tour of 'The Factory,' Our New Hampshire Printing & Fulfillment Facility

In 2024, we cut the ribbon & opened the doors to 'The Factory' in Hudson, New Hampshire - and needless to say, we Life is Good-ified the whole operations process from start to finish.

The prospect of setting up a printing, logistics, and fulfillment facility from scratch was extremely exciting, because it meant we could do all of the little (and big) things we'd imagined for our perfect Factory. A few of those sustainability-oriented touches:

  • High-Efficiency LED lighting
  • Low-flow faucets and low-flush fixtures
  • Efficient "On-Demand" water heating system
  • Destratification fans
  • Energy-efficient HVAC systems
  • Low E-Glass windows
  • A recycling program for product packaging

Planet-Friendly Partnerships

Working with inspiring, innovative brand partners is one of our favorite ways to keep things fresh and fun here at Life is Good - and we're proud of the efforts our collaborators have made to improve the world around them. Here's a small sampling of some sustainability-focused projects our friends have been working on!

Martin Guitar

  • Leading reforestation support in Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Pennsylvania
  • Hosts the Wood Summit, focused on the sustainability of tonewoods

Sea Bags

  • All bags are made in the USA from used sails and eco-friendly inks
  • Saved over 1.5 million pounds of material from going into landfills

Our Manufacturing Facilities

We care deeply about the treatment of the hardworking people who help create Life is Good product in our partner factories. It's our belief that every single person on Earth deserves love and positivity - and we know that we can use our power as a company to try and ensure that everyone who touches an LIG tee during its lifecycle is receiving the rights and pay that they deserve.

All factories we work with agree to the Life is Good Code of Conduct.

We are guided by the following standards:

  • WRAP
  • Fair Labor Association's Compliance Benchmarks
  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • International Labor Organization conventions
  • Our own Modern Slavery Statement

We conduct regular factory audits and workplace assessments.

We examine the following issues:

  • Wages and benefits
  • Working hours
  • Recruitment fees (a potential indicator of human trafficking)
  • Child labor or forced labor
  • Discrimination, discipline, harassment, or abuse
  • Freedom of association
  • If any factories we work with are found to have issues in these areas, we will either work with them on improving the problem or terminate our relationship with them entirely
